This STC contract provides research and technology support in the area of chemical and biological detection and identification protection applicable to all services in a joint nature. Areas being supported currently include active standoff detection for wide range digitizer and control for frequency agile laser lidar data acquisition system; passive standoff detection research to include atmospheric and radiometric modeling, sensor modeling, data collection, data analysis, algorithm development, theoretical development, and applied research; evaluation and assay development for the latest bio detection platforms; training of responder personnel; creation of an extensive Relational Database Management System for data warehousing (data basing) of the most reproducible and high sensitivity proteins of a number of non-pathogenic bacteria, viruses and toxins; and development of a five-year Technology Readiness Evaluation Plan for Chemical and Biological Contamination Avoidance research and development (R&D) and provide technical support for the conduct of field tests to assign Technical Readiness Evaluation levels to candidate technologies.

Teamwork with the Government has been the hallmark of the STC approach to all tasks under this contract. Key points of emphasis have been: (1) providing the highest level of talent possible, (2) reducing the administrative burden on the STC employees to allow them to concentrate on the Government task effort, (3) monitoring cost and deliverables schedule progress at the local office, and (4) anticipating shortfalls and implementing immediate corrective actions. STC’s personnel expertise and staffing is one of the keys to properly supporting the Government in this type of services contract.
