Example: Global Asset Management for Ford Motor Company

Jacobs provides complete asset management of a number of test facilities for Ford Motor Company, including the Driveability Test Facility (DTF) in Allen Park, MI, a portion of the Dearborn Proving Grounds (DPG) in Dearborn, MI, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing executed at General Motors' Milford Proving Ground, MI. Additionally, Jacobs performs test and test execution asset management services at the Allen Park Test Laboratory in Allen Park, MI, Automotive Safety Center in Dearborn, MI, Powertrain and Fuel Subsystems Laboratory in Dearborn, MI, and Automatic Transmission Development Laboratory in Livonia, MI. As a whole, the Jacobs asset management activity includes 10 wind tunnels, three dynamometer test cells, multiple soak rooms, a vehicle-sized state-of-the-art EMC chamber, a number of emissions cells, vehicle preparation and instrumentation areas, and a complement of special test rooms which provide state-of-the-art capability for simulating the environmental characteristics of almost every altitude or climatic condition in the world. Additionally, Jacobs provides design/build services for upgrades at each of these facilities.

Engineering Services – We provide an effective, structured, requirements-based, and disciplined systems engineering methodology for design/build and upgrades in each of the facilities we asset manage. We apply an SE approach for scheduling, vehicle preparation, test article movement, test execution, communication with the test requestor, data transmission, and test article return.

Acoustic Testing – Jacobs performs aeroacoustic testing in Wind Tunnel 8 at the Driveability Test Facility. Testing involves both external (to the vehicle) and internal measurements, using both microphone arrays and Aachen heads.

Environmental Simulation/Climatic Testing – For Ford, Jacobs currently provides testing services to 5 climatic wind tunnels, three smaller (dyno cell) environmental chambers and a large semi-environmental acoustic chamber. In addition to full environmental capabilities, several of these cells have altitude simulation, requiring specialized training and procedures for safe operation – procedures which Jacobs developed as part of the overall asset management activity.

Equipment Calibration and Testing – Jacobs offers commercial metrology services to both industry and government from our metrology laboratory in Southfield , Michigan . We perform calibration on a wide variety of instruments and systems that measure or source the following parameters: pressure, AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, capacitance, temperature, frequency, time, humidity, and torque.

Additionally, we are ISO 9001:2000 certified to perform system, sub-system, and component level maintenance and calibrations. We provide on-site in-situ repairs and calibrations on various systems such as: data acquisition systems, dynamometers, environmental control systems, temperature control systems, pressure control systems, climatic control systems and a myriad of other facility control and measurement systems.
