CMMI – Process Improvement Leadership and Oversight
Client − Organizational leadership for up to five students
Purpose − Support articulation of performance or process improvement goals that directly support or achieve important business goals. Suggest mechanisms and approaches to achieve demonstrable, meaningful leadership of the improvement effort, to ensure that the Engineering Processing Group (EPG) and engineering staff understand their parts in a successful improvement effort, and to motivate positive, effective support for the improvement program. Discuss the application of an Return on Investment (ROI) measurement program for the improvement effort. Review approach and strategy for oversight of organization’s engineering performance or process improvement program(s). Develop, understanding of need for oversight, and effective mechanisms to execute oversight. Discuss timeliness of appropriate insight into improvement program(s) to reduce program risk and assure goal accomplishment within budget and schedule constraints. Develop understanding of executive direction for corrective actions in response to program deviations or problems. Discuss the use of specific measures to support timely insight into program execution. Alternative CMMI® compliant Lean/agile approaches to software development are presented and discussed.
Client Preparation − Have understanding of basic goals, schedule, resources, and strategy for performance or process improvement.
Expected Outcomes − The strategy, approach, and mechanisms for successful leadership of the performance or process improvement program. The organizational leader will be able to plan, execute, and modify as required, leadership of the improvement program. Organizational leadership will be prepared to develop an oversight approach that will ensure the improvement program meets program and organizational goals, remains on schedule and within cost, and manages program risks effectively. Understand the application of ROI principles as they apply to the improvement effort.
